We currently have a very exciting career opportunity for an Assistant Vice President Corporate Communications-Financial Services. This person will be actively involved in developing and executing corporate communications and strategic programs for clients, mainly in the Financial Services industry sector. The Assistant Vice President will be responsible for managing both up and down within account teams to appropriately service client communications programs. This individual will interact with and provide communications support at client companies; develop and execute corporate communications strategies to deliver results and meet client expectations; draft documents for client use (including communications plans, strategy memos, press releases, interview preparation memos, etc.); provide perspective to clients on internal, peer, and market developments as such pertains to the media and marketplace; and regularly plan and execute media relations programs. This role will be based in the Strategic Communications office in Manhattan.
Client Service
Assess and develop positioning and messaging for clients; engage in reputation and/or change management work
Develop and execute media relations campaigns
Develop and refine client strategies and appropriate messages
Monitor research and news for clients, peers, and the applicable industry
Identify strategic opportunities to further the clients’ reputation
Be prepared to mitigate risk and take advantage of opportunities based on regulatory or business developments
Client Relationships / Account Management
Manage client programs on a day-to-day basis
Counsel client about industry, company, and market developments as it pertains to corporate communications
Take a proactive approach and anticipate client needs
Demonstrate insight into client needs and concerns
Establish and manage to client expectations
Build lasting relationships with the client’s Corporate Relations Team, including frequent contact with C-suite
Strategy & Planning
Creatively prepare and execute communications programs
Identify emerging opportunities to add more value for the client
Anticipate potentially difficult situations and be able to evaluate strategies and alternatives with senior management
Team Contributions & Characteristics
Demonstrate a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes and to assist others when needed
Effectively manage competing demands for time
Actively support new business development efforts
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of three years work experience in corporate communications or related field
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, finance, economics or English
Experience in the retail industry sector is a plus
Excellent writing skills
Strong media relations skills and experience; relationships with reporters who cover retail and consumer packaged goods companies a plus
Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to juggle multiple client accounts
Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, verbally or in writing
A high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information
Understanding of the corporate earnings process for public companies
A strong work ethic and an ability to be a self-starter
Computer proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
