Job Summary:
Responsible for researching story assignments, shooting and creating stories in the field, writing and overseeing the production of assigned news stories, and reading copy to a live camera when assigned. Responsible for covering stories in both Douglas and Coos Counties. Pre-employment screening will be conducted.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Research story assignments and create stories in the field
Write and oversee production for stories and read copy to a live camera
Write and report assignments for upcoming news programs
Write and produce stories in text form and post to website
Deliver copy in a manner consistent with story content, program flow and accepted News standards
Participate in public affairs, public service, and promotional activities as assigned
Consult with Assignment Desk to suggest and/or receive story assignments, specific story angles, sources to be used, potential video/audio elements, and any special requirements
Ride in or drive company vehicles as assigned
Monitor police and fire scanners for spot news and respond to spot news calls
Interview news sources and ensure that all necessary audio and video is produced in the field
Receive information from the Producer related to the length and format of each story
Qualifications and Requirements:
Maintain a well-groomed appearance
Ability to comfortably and professionally perform in front of a live camera and deliver information consistent with story content, program flow, and accepted News standards
Ability to make public appearances and perform consistently within News standards
Ability to analyze a high volume of news content quickly and accurately, and the skill to select, write, and edit broadcast content following established guidelines
Ability to lift, carry, and operate field gear up to 30 pounds
Strong administrative, supervisory, and people skills and the ability to perform in time-driven environment
Computer literate with ability to write scripts and produce a rundown
Two years paid television news experience as a working journalist preferred
College degree in Journalism, Television Production, or related field preferred
Valid Oregon Driver’s License, insurable at standard rates
Ability to implement administrative policies and procedures
Submit letter of interest, resume, non-returnable DVD, and references as soon as possible to Human Resources
