Profile

The Copy Editor provides editorial support for the Curriculum Department during and after the curriculum development phase for print and digital materials. The Copy Editor is responsible for supporting the Senior Copy Editor for preparing final curriculum materials to support students in improving academic skills and to advance school-wide goals.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*
Supports the Senior Copy Editor in collaborating with Curriculum Developers and Curriculum Specialists to provide print and digital materials that exhibit consistency, grammar, style, completeness, content integrity, and accuracy across all subject area curricula.
Performs copy editing (grammar and spelling), formatting, and proofreading of all current and future curriculum materials, including student activity workbooks, instructor's manuals, student handbooks, online assessments, as well as other supplemental course materials as assigned, utilizing Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word.
Edits images for content accuracy and proper formatting, utilizing Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
Implementing editorial phases as directed.
Organizes curriculum files and database on the server/Google drive.
Supports Curriculum Developers towards creating a consistent house style that is best for student achievement.
Creates and formats the visual layout of curriculum units.
Other duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
Solid Editing and proofreading skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Able to understand all curriculum areas to provide creative pedagogical input and ensure content accuracy.
Must be able to manage multiple projects with tight timeframes.
Ability to independently take initiative and work efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
Proficient working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications including, but not limited to: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and the ability to use technology effectively.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining diplomacy, courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum one year experience in desktop publishing and/or document editing.
Related training or experience preferred.
