The Space Telescope Science Institute is seeking an Online Curator supports the Office of Public Outreach in the dissemination of materials for the news media, education community, learners, and the general public. This position initiates, coordinates, curates, and oversees content and structure for outreach websites and other online products, acting as a liaison to subject matter experts. Works with stakeholders including science staff, editors, developers, and designers. Works with the Content Management System (CMS) for assigned websites. Maintains project focus and objectives. The Institute is located on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD. Maintain site by adding, modifying, and deleting text, graphic and multimedia content as necessary
Monitor websites; and pursues content
Ensure all content meets established content standards
Reviews and updates content as needed
Maintain a consistent look and feel within each website or application (i.e., maintain site integrity)
Work with Outreach, IT, and other STScI staff
Work as an integral member of the product development team (scientists, educators, graphic artists, writers, programmers and others).
Familiarity with HTML and experience with websites and Internet-based applications
Ability to work iteratively with project teams
Excellent customer service skills; dedicated, collaborative, and responsible
Attention to detail and well organized
Ability to follow established standards and practices, dedicated to communicating progress of projects and maintaining an archive of work
Knowledge of web design a plus
Enthusiastic about astronomy and science
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of education and experience. Degree in English, journalism, computer science, or a related field preferred. Master’s degree desirable. Experience coding in HTML. 0-2 years of related experience. You can substitute a master’s degree for two years of experience. This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence to meet ITAR requirements.
