The Department of Cultural Affairs is seeking an Information Specialist – Digital Content Producer. The individual will be responsible for the following: Manage digital content and produce videos to promote the department's activities and programs. Use current software and creative mediums to develop fresh and engaging content for various digital technologies to inform Iowans and visitors about the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs' programs, exhibits, professional development opportunities, and other resources.
Travel across the state to shoot photos and video; shoots will involve frequent day trips and occasional overnight travel. Develop and implement social media plans to promote arts, film, history, and culture through the Iowa Arts Council, Produce Iowa, State Historical Society of Iowa, State Historical Museum, and the State Historic Preservation Office. Coordinate social media content to increase followers and participants on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or other forms of digital communication. Update content on the department website, calendar, and via email to communicate program information to increase participation and awareness using content management system software.
Research, plan, draft, edit, and disseminate information to various audiences. Manage the DCA brand throughout all activities and design graphics as needed. Other duties as assigned including managing workflow, coordinating communications plans with colleagues, completing reports on outcomes, corresponding with the public and other departments,scheduling meetings and logistics, and participating in team-building activities.
A successful candidate will have a proven track record and experience in project management, planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), digital media platforms, video, websites, social media, and/or public speaking.
Selectives
072 Photography
12 semester hours of education, 6 months of full-time experience, or an equivalent combination of both in advanced photographic and video capture and processing techniques, including use of filters, both physical and digital, and use of related specialty imaging software.
And
561 Social Media Management
Applicant should demonstrate six months' employment experience working with various types of social media including all of the following: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram and YouTube
And
991 Broadcast Journalism
6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the field of news and journals which are broadcast, that is, published by electrical methods, instead of the older methods, such as printed newspapers and posters. Broadcast methods include radio (via air, cable, and Internet), television (via air, cable, and Internet).
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications and experience equal to two years of full-time work planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking.
2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Two years of full-time work experience in planning and developing content for dissemination through traditional media (newspapers, publications, radio, and television), websites, social media, and/or public speaking; and
b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications equals one year of fulltime experience.
3) Number two above, where thirty semester hours of postgraduate coursework in journalism, public relations, graphic design, or communications from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required full-time work experience.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 18 months of full-time work as an Information Specialist 1.
