Internship - Communications/Public Relations
The Communications & PR intern will be a valuable member of the Marketing & Communications Department. This is a wonderful opportunity for a motivated individual who is full of creative ideas and eager to learn and help spread awareness of the Y’s mission. This intern will gain valuable real-world experience at one of largest nonprofits in greater Chicago. This is an unpaid internship.

Scope of Responsibilities:
Create and curate content for various integrated marketing communications channels, including websites, e-newsletters, e-blasts, social media, videos, and press materials
Contribute story ideas for the editorial calendar
Update and maintain pressroom on the website, as needed
Review the social media presence of peer organizations and share ideas for increasing engagement on the Y's social media channels
Assist with researching new media opportunities and updating media lists
Assist with pulling metrics and reports to determine ROI of communications and PR efforts
Assist with media and social media monitoring
Assist with proofreading, fact checking, updating databases, and organizing resources into a reference library
Attend departmental and editorial meetings, as requested
Support the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor or the person responsible for those items at your site.
Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to managing visitors and guests at our facilities.
Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
Completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or other related fields strongly preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Solid understanding of different social networks
Capability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines
Strict attention to detail
Ability to communicate in a professional manner with internal and external contacts
Proficiency in word processing, database work, e-mail and Internet research
Knowledge of Google Suite products; PR platforms (e.g., Meltwater), social media management systems (e.g., Sprout) or Adobe Creative Suite are a plus
Enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA of Metro Chicago and the communities we serve
