The nation’s largest newspaper publisher has cut 100
management jobs just one month after eliminating 1,000 positions.
McLean, Virginia-based Gannett (“guh-NETT”) owns eight of the top 50 newspapers in the US, and five major-market
television stations.
The cuts did not affect the company’s flagship publication, USA Today.
The management reductions consolidated circulation, finance, and other operations into four regional groups. The layoffs took place on Tuesday.
Gannett’s print
advertising revenue dropped 11% in the first half of this year, with the biggest loss in classified revenue.
