Layoffs are being reported at the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, and Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The Times-Dispatch reported letting go 18 employees. The recession and a decline in advertising revenue has hurt the newspaper, along with many other newspaper publishers as well.
The job cuts included staff members in the departments of advertising, circulation, human resources, news, and production departments.
The Inquirer and Daily News are expected to make 35 union job cuts also.
