Journalist Jobs

A journalist reports and writes news stories for publication or broadcast, describing the background and details of events and arranging interviews with people who can provide information about a particular story. A journalist provides review copy; corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation following a prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines; and evaluates notes taken about an event in order to isolate pertinent facts and details. A journalist determines a story’s emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly. A journalist researches and analyzes background information related to stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information. A journalist gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, and attendance at political, sports, artistic, social, and other events. A journalist is responsible for investigating breaking news developments such as disasters, crimes, and human interest stories.

A journalist must have a four-year degree in journalism or communications and one year of experience as a journalist. A strong candidate must be able to work well with other people with divergent viewpoints. A journalist should have strong writing, editing, and presentation skills. A journalist must also be proficient in the English language and must have the ability to work in high-pressure situations in a deadline-oriented environment.
